Es war anders explores the instability of memory and the distance between what happened and what remains.

Forms appear almost recognizable before dissolving again. Figures, architecture and fragments of a possible scene emerge through layers of black, white and grey, while traces of colour interrupt the surface like remnants of something once vivid.

The painting exists somewhere between recollection and disappearance. What we remember is never entirely what was. Time shifts perspectives, erases details and reconstructs the past until memory becomes something of its own.

Es war anders does not describe what happened. It reflects on the impossibility of returning to something exactly as it was.
