David Pher is a German contemporary artist working between Berlin and Schlitz, Hesse.

Before painting became the centre of his work, Pher spent years in electronic music. Eventually, he grew tired of the business surrounding it. He began painting for himself, with no intention of starting another career in the arts. Becoming a painter was never the plan.

What began without expectations developed into an independent artistic practice, one that has since taken his work to exhibitions, collaborations and private collections around the world.

Pher's paintings move between different styles and approaches. Some are direct, built around bold colour and spontaneous gestures. Others take shape through layers of acrylic, oil, charcoal and pastel, with words, marks and fragments appearing, disappearing or remaining partly visible. He has never felt the need to settle on a single visual language.

His experiences in both music and art have reinforced the importance of independence. Rather than allowing the expectations of an industry to determine his direction, he prefers to follow the work itself, maintaining a direct connection with the people who collect it.
