BIO
David Pher is a Berlin based contemporary artist working primarily in large scale painting. His practice operates at the intersection of gestural abstraction, chromatic field painting, and materially driven surface work.
Born in central Germany in the 1980s, Pher developed an early focus on color, rhythm, and spatial tension, elements that continue to structure his work. Color functions as a primary compositional agent, establishing both emotional register and spatial depth within the pictorial field.
His painterly language remains deliberately non singular. Certain works emphasize expansive, color dominant compositions that approach abstracted landscape, while others incorporate fragmented text, graphic notation, and restrained semantic disruption. Across these bodies of work, meaning is neither fixed nor fully resolved.
Process and material accumulation are central to Pher’s methodology. Surfaces are built through successive layering, interruption, overpainting, and partial erasure, allowing the temporal construction of the image to remain legible. This produces the dense physical presence characteristic of the work.
Pher’s paintings are held in private collections internationally and have been presented in exhibitions worldwide. Collaborations with companies including ZARA and Sennheiser indicate the broader cultural reach of his visual language.
Based in Berlin, David Pher continues to develop a distinct and internally coherent painterly practice within the field of contemporary abstraction.
