David Pher is a Berlin based contemporary artist known for large scale painting. His work moves between gestural abstraction and expansive fields of color, with the surface itself playing a central role.

Born in central Germany in the 1980s, Pher developed an early interest in color, rhythm, and spatial tension. These remain the core concerns of his work. Color is his primary means of composition, setting both the emotional tone and the sense of depth in each painting.

His visual language is deliberately varied. Some works are broad, color driven compositions that edge toward abstracted landscape. Others bring in fragmented text and graphic marks that unsettle any single reading. Across all of them, meaning stays open rather than fixed.

Process and material are central to how Pher works. He builds each surface through repeated layering, interruption, overpainting, and partial erasure, so that the way the image was made stays visible. This is what gives the paintings their dense physical presence.

Pher's paintings are held in private collections internationally and have been shown in exhibitions worldwide. Collaborations with companies such as ZARA and Sennheiser reflect the wider reach of his work beyond the gallery context.

He lives and works mainly in Berlin and keeps two additional studios in Schlitz, Hessen, one in the town and one in the countryside.
